Time Trials on Thursday
Good afternoon, Barracudas!
Please read this email, like I know you do with all emails, completely to the end! This Thursday, May 29th, we have our first swim meet of the season! We will not be swimming against another team, just other Barracudas. Time Trials is an opportunity for kids new to the sport to understand how a meet operates, for returners to set times for entries at our meets later in the season—as well as relay placements, and for parents to learn volunteer jobs.
The events in this meet are different than what you'll see at the rest of the meets of the season. Since the Smoky Mountain Invitational is after the City Meet Championship this year, we're going to swim the longer freestyle events on Thursday. As that will take more time, we're going to skip the IMs at the beginning of the meet. The kids will have opportunities to swim IM at the 3 dual meets prior to City Champs. Then, like last year, we'll have a single heat of relays at the end... because it's not a swim meet without relays at the end (in my opinion).
Like all of our meets, we will not have JCSC morning practice before the meet itself. If you're a Club Talon swimmer, please do whatever Ben/Aaron recommend in regards to swimming the morning of a meet. Warm-ups are at 5 PM, so please be at the pool no later than 4:45 PM to check in with me and get oriented. This has never actually happened flawlessly, but I'm going to ask for it again anyway: Families with 8&Unders please sit under the tent right by the pool!!! Older kids and families, please allow them to sit there. This makes finding the Littles way easier.
We will warm-up for about 30 minutes, then, during the time the "away team" would be warming up, us coaches will teach the kids how to read the event list/meet lineup and heat sheet as well as our team cheer, and board members will make sure volunteers know what they're doing! We will also inform the Big Cudas who their Little Cudas are. More information on Big & Little Cudas later. The meet starts at 6 PM and will hopefully be over before dark. Please don't leave a meet before double-checking that you've swam all your events!
Here's what you need to do: RSVP for the meet on our website before tomorrow (Tuesday) at midnight if you haven't already done so. Sign-ups for volunteer jobs are also open now!!! You may receive another email from Barbara Nichols or another board member concerning jobs between now and Thursday night. I know that was a lot of information. And I probably forgot some things. So, like always, please reach out if you have any questions! Thank you so much for reading to the end.
GO CUDAS!!!
Coach Josh
