Banquet Information & More
Good morning!
I hope everyone has been able to relax and recover some after City before we have to start this next school year. We're looking forward to getting everyone together one last time in this transition of seasons. Below, I've got a few items that'll hopefully answer people's questions.
Tom Schumann City Meet
Last year, we had 112 swimmers and 65 finalists at the Tom Schumann City Meet Championship. This year, we had 118 swimmers and 70 finalists. More impressive than those numbers, though, is the fact that last year we finished 10th... and this year we finished 6th (out of 28 teams). That is awesome!!! This is the highest we've ranked since at least 2014. The team score results on the GKAISA website only date back to then, so I've emailed the GKAISA board to see if they have older records because I want to brag accurately, of course. If you want to see the detailed results document, it's on the GKAISA site here.
I have the medals and ribbons from the meet at my house, and I'm working on checking all of them. The GKAISA board said we needed to since there's been a lot of mistakes discovered... I'm about halfway through checking ours and we're missing about 20 items already, which is frustrating. Hopefully, I can get the rest before our banquet, but to be honest, who knows. I'm sorry. I did finally receive the rest of our Smoky ribbons this weekend, so I will have those.
Awards Banquet
We will be having our end-of-season awards banquet this Sunday, August 2nd at Maury Middle School from 2 to 4 PM. Pizza, cookies, and drinks will be provided. Please RSVP on SwimTopia just like you would for a swim meet before midnight tomorrow (Wednesday, July 29th). In the RSVP, you'll be able to indicate how many family members will be attending so we can plan for food accordingly. If you/family members won't be eating, you can indicate that in the comments. We hope to see you there!
Swimming During the School Year
I'm continuing to get a lot of questions about how kids can continue swimming during the school year, which is super encouraging! I'm finishing gathering details to send in a separate email which will explain middle school and high school team options in the area as well as our recommended USA Swimming program. I plan on sending this information prior to the banquet so anybody can ask me follow-up questions in person.
Thank you to everyone for your support, time, and energy to make JCSC all that it is. We are incredibly grateful for every parent, family member, and friend who has volunteered directly or indirectly to provide a memorable summer league swimming experience for our kids. It's always a community effort, and it can be exhausting, but I hope all the new families we have see how much it is worth it in the end to be a part of the Barracuda family.
See you Sunday,
Josh
